Don't Dream It, Be It
Updated: Jan 20
I believe turning dreams into reality is about 60% inner work and 40% external. It's a delicate balance and dance between action and inaction. I've followed through on a lot of my own dreams throughout my life, and I wanted to come up with a list of ten characteristics that turned them into reality.
Openness - Many of the opportunities that have come my way throughout my life were due to being open to opportunity. Instead of shutting them down, I would think, let's see where this goes. Keeping an open mind has changed my life time and time again. All of life starts to unfold when we become open to making just one new decision. Every new or different decision is each its own cascade of life waiting to happen.
Belief - Before we can change our reality, we have to believe that another reality exists. We have to change our mindset to believe the new reality is available to us. Belief is the bridge to anything new in life. Examining our belief systems is the first opportunity to change directions.
Attention - What we focus our attention on expands into our reality. It's important to maintain awareness on what we're giving our time. Energy is currency, and our attention is our energy. Attention helps to build our beliefs and can also serve as a reflection of our beliefs. If we want to change our beliefs, we should review what's getting our attention. If it isn't serving the new belief, find something worthy.
Willingness - This goes hand in hand with openness. We have to be willing to fail and hope that it's hard and fast. All experience is data that can be used to improve the process. I don't know how failing ever got such a bad rap. It's not only necessary but incredibly valuable. To follow any dream in life requires humility. Willingness is humility in disguise. The only true failure in life comes from the unwillingness to learn from past mistakes due to a fixation on the path to an outcome.
Imagination - A huge part of dreaming is imagination. Some people call this manifestation. I view manifestation as the process of ushering the imagination into physical reality. Those times when we catch ourselves lost in a daydream is gold. When we're lost in our own imaginations, we connect to the most important aspects of our dreams. It is the chance to glimpse into a future timeline to see how it feels. The more we check into that reality, the closer we become to it.
Curiosity - Transforming fear to curiosity is pure magic. I mean magic in the way that it is probably the most life altering decision we can make. This is how we can improve our openness and willingness with very practical steps. Through our willingness to listen and learn, we become open to the power of our own inner alchemy.
Action - This is the part where many people get lost because it's easy to talk ourselves out of taking tangible steps to our dreams. There is no better time than now to take action, big or small. It is a series of small decisions and actions that come together to weave the biggest and most unwavering dreams. It is through an initial spark of action that our dreams make their first appearance in our every day reality.
Consistency - Consistency is the marriage between action and attention. Once we start taking action and we keep showing up with our attention, our dreams take on a life of their own. Our dreams show up for us when we show up for them. I think one of the biggest lessons I've ever learned in life is just to keep showing up.
Authenticity - Authenticity is key because building anything without it ends in collapse. Whether it's us or the dream itself. We have to create from the heart and claim what is true for us because all else will fall away in the end. Show up with authenticity. Anything else is just a life lesson.
Gratitude - We can be thankful for all that we have and still create space for more. I think one of the biggest hacks to dreaming I've found is the time I take to reflect back on the dreams that have already come into fruition. It takes me right back to the vibration of accomplishment and awe and makes it that much easier to dream again. There's always so much to be grateful for and celebrate. Gratitude and celebration begets more gratitude and celebration.
The universe is ever expanding, and so are we. Dream big, and keep dreaming.
